Boudoir is a French word meaning a woman's private dressing room or bedroom. In photography, boudoir refers to a style in which women pose for photographs partially clothed or in lingerie.
Truthfully, I never thought that I would ever take boudoir photos, let alone call myself a boudoir photographer. Full disclosure... I'm super modest. As a former dancer, I can attest to the fact that there are two types of dancers: those who can strip down in front of their entire team without a problem, or those (aka ME!) who prefer to change in private or covertly under baggy clothes. When I accompanied my best friend to the boudoir shoot she did for her hubby a few years ago, I was super uncomfortable (I drank A LOT of champagne to loosen up) and it wasn't even ME that was the half-naked one.
But last fall, I stepped out of my comfort zone and shot my first ever boudoir session for a friend. Being behind the camera was a completely different experience for me. It honestly didn't phase me that I was taking pics of my half-naked friend. The response I got from her photos was astounding and the images we got from her session were so much more than just snaps in sexy lingerie... they showcased her strength and her vulnerability (and they made for the best surprise Christmas present ever to her now fiancé)!
I had others asking me to do boudoir sessions, so this January I turned my sunroom into a studio, rented a gorgeous couch from White Glove Vintage Rentals, teamed up with the best beauty team in the biz (the ladies of Fleurt Beauty Company) and welcomed 13 insanely gorgeous gals into my home for a little Boudoir Marathon!
When I say I had the best time that weekend, I mean it! We laughed, we drank mimosas, I made new friends. I got to hear stories of heartbreak, of insecurities and of triumphs. We celebrated every single one of these beautiful women (and we even celebrated their love for their biggest fans, too)! I gave the girls a few ideas heading into the shoots, directing them to bring anything that might be meaningful to their significant other. They brought everything from football jerseys, to letterman jackets, to playing cards. Their "props" made each set of images unique and special.
Working with Rachael & Meagan of Fleurt Beauty Company was just the icing on the cake, too! When I say I have the best beauty team in the biz, I mean it! After we wrapped up, Rachael told me, "It was so wonderful to work with women from all walks of life going through so many different things. People think boudoir is about sexy lingerie and risqué pics, but it's so much more than that. It's a true expression of female empowerment. The stay-at-home mom that is exhausted and needed a break to feel beautiful, to the working mom in school with two kids going through a separation that just needed to be uplifted. It was just incredible to be able to make them feel like they still got it!"

Rachael is SO RIGHT!! These sessions were so much more than just a photoshoot. It was a bold celebration of beauty, self-love and bravery.
Every single girl walked into their session saying, "this is so far out of my comfort zone, " or "I can't believe I'm doing this." And every girl left saying, "this was the most fun I've ever had," and "I can't wait to do it again." My inbox was flooding with messages like this after the weekend...
"You are amazing at what you do! You made me feel so comfortable and beautiful during the photoshoot. These pictures are gorgeous, and truly bring out the inner bombshell in me! Who knew I could have so much confidence after a photoshoot?"
I recently launched a little sub-brand to my photography biz and creatively called it 'desired boudoir' - a little play on words with my name. I use a separate Instagram to showcase my boudoir work. I also just announced my next MARATHON that's happening on Sunday, May 6th, just in time for Father's Day. I'll be teaming up with my friends Rachael & Meagan of Fleurt Beauty again to offer an amped up version of the sessions I did in January.
If you want a day of pampering and some documentation of how amazingly beautiful you are, then shoot me a message! We will have a blast... I promise!
