Dancing in Fields of Lavender // A Summer Maternity Session with Ellen + Dave // Harford County Mate

Earlier this year, I was brainstorming some ideas for new and unique photoshoots.  I had this vision of little girls dancing in twirly white dresses in a lavender field.  I know of several sunflower fields that are usually a popular spot for photographs in the Fall, but I had never seen a shoot done in a lavender field.  Off to google I went, and to my surprise, I found a lavender field practically in my backyard!  I immediately contacted the owners, only to find out that lavender doesn't bloom until June, and since we had a brutal spring, blooms here in Maryland were delayed until late June.

I was waiting and waiting for the perfect opportunity to shoot at Purple Rain Lavender Farm and when Ellen and I started discussing location options for her upcoming maternity shoot, I threw it out there as an idea and she was on-board immediately!  With a baby girl on the way, there was just something so perfect as a sea of lavender.

Ellen & Dave’s session was actually a gift from Ellen’s sister, Jill.  Jill contacted me a few months ago asking if she could surprise her sister with newborn photos!  I love a good surprise, so we put together a custom package that included a fresh 48 session (my fav!) and a newborn session.  All of my newborn packages include a complimentary maternity session because in my mind they’re a must to document this special time.  It also helps me get to know the couple or family a little better before their newborn session.

I loved every second of this shoot and I love the final result even more!  I can't wait to head back to this magical location.

Just a few more weeks until I get to meet little miss and take some equally beautiful portraits of her.
