So, for those of you who follow along on my Facebook page (if you don't, you should), you may have seen a post sometime late last year teasing some Snow Mini Sessions. The response I got was crazy - who knew so many people would want snaps of their kiddos in the snow?!? Problem is, every ounce of snow we got here in good 'ole Bel Air, Maryland this year hasn't been enough for me to attempt to pull these babies off (insert sad face here). BUT when the forecast was showing snow late last week, and I knew I had a maternity session scheduled for early Sunday morning, I thought maybe, just maybe I'd get lucky enough to cross off one of my bucket list items this year (I've got another post planned in a few weeks to chat about other shoots on my bucket list).
Well... I think it's pretty safe to say that we did indeed get snow for what I think turned out to be a magical maternity session.
Introducing Erin + Chris + baby Ross
I met Erin last year at a Stella & Dot Trunk Show (oh yeah, I also moonlight as a Stella & Dot Stylist). Well fast forward almost exactly one year, and Erin and her hubby Chris are expecting their first bundle of joy next month! Erin contacted me about a month ago looking for someone to document this exciting time in their life. It's funny because most of my clients tell me they DON'T want maternity photos - just newborn pics. But I think it is SO important to document this time and I was thrilled that Erin really truly wanted to do them! I love looking back on my maternity pics. I remember at the time I felt so awful about my body, but every photo reminds me of just how remarkable the experience of carrying a child really is. I still find myself glancing at my kids some days and think to myself, "I made that. I carried that little human inside me for 9 months." OK, so maybe those 9 months felt like an eternity, and I complained most of my pregnancies of sciatica pain and nausea, BUT it still amazes me at what our bodies are able to do. I actually now include a complimentary maternity session for all of my newborn clients. Some are hesitant to do it, but after the fact, they're so glad they did because they'll forever have the memory of what it was like to carry that tiny little miracle.
Anyway (sorry, I have a tendency to go off on tangents)... I had so much fun getting to know Erin & Chris a little more this weekend. They are both so easy going and were really up for anything! Erin braved the snow in heeled booties and rocked every second of this shoot (isn't her maternity style awesome - I mean that plum cardigan is everything).
Here are just a few favs from their shoot!
Near the end of our session, we took a little walk to the Covered Bridge on Jericho Road and I was able to squeeze in some pretty rad silhouette shots, too!
I can't wait to share their newborn session in just a few weeks when they welcome their sweet baby boy to the world!
