On the Good Ship Lollipop... a Shirley Temple-Themed Portrait Session // Harford County Child Photog

I’m not a huge fan of fancy backdrops or lots of props, so when my friend, Courtney came to me and said she wanted to do a Shirley Temple-themed photoshoot for her daughter (a huge ST fan), I immediately started brainstorming how we could pay homage to this classic character in a fun, creative way. If we could flashback to Shirley Temple’s era, where would she hang out? I woke up one morning a few weeks ago and text Courtney exclaiming, “I’ve got it! We need to do this shoot at a cupcake shop!” I had these visions of Courtney’s sweet 4 year old, Harper, peering through the glass picking out the perfect sweet treat! Well yesterday my visions came to life, and the end result was even sweeter than I could have imagined!

As a Bel Air native, I love supporting the small local businesses on Main Street in downtown Bel Air. La Cakerie was the perfect backdrop for our little session and the staff was so accommodating, too! They handpicked a color-coordinated cupcake to match sweet Harper’s dress! They even let her take home a few candies for being so stinking cute. Harper said her cupcake was delicious, too!

In addition to our little stop on Main Street, we also got some adorable snaps in my in-home studio. Courtney had Harper's dress specially made from Bizzy Bumpkins on Etsy. Add in some hot rollers and a pretty red ribbon and snap, she's Shirley temple herself. We even played some "Good Ship Lollipop" to get little miss Harper in the ST spirit! This minimalist background really let’s Harper’s personality shine, too, don’t you think??

I'm up for another challenge like this! Who has some ideas brewing!
